A Whimsical, retro-Inspired NYC Wedding at Sound River Studios & Gottscheer Hall

A Whimsical, 80s-Inspired NYC Wedding at Sound River Studios & Gottscheer Hall planned and designed by Taylored Events & Co.

Sage and Loren’s wedding was a true celebration of creativity, community, and love. Planned in just six months with Taylored Events & Co.'s Partial Planning + Design package, their big day was packed with personal touches and unexpected details that made it one of the most memorable weddings we’ve ever planned. The entire day was captured perfectly by Ruby Olivia, whose candid, artful photos brought every colorful and emotional moment to life.

The Ceremony

The ceremony and cocktail hour took place at the industrial-chic Sound River Studios, transformed into a whimsical, retro-inspired dreamscape. Picture flowing chiffon draping, a custom circular stage as the ceremony backdrop, all perfectly executed by Gala Productions. Guests sat on clear chiavari chairs, surrounded by bright pops of red and white florals, as a live string quartet, lead by Vlad Hontila, set the tone for the ceremony.

In a unique and touching moment, Sage and Loren chose to walk down the aisle hand in hand, just the two of them, making their entrance as a united pair. Their close friend officiated the ceremony, bringing warmth and personal touches that made the moment feel intimate, sweet, and truly special. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as the couple stood together to say their vows.

Sage’s look was equally show-stopping. She wore a custom two-piece wedding ensemble designed by her talented friend, Leila Plouffe. The structured corset top paired with a crinkled, high-shine metallic skirt—modern, bold, and unforgettable. Her simple bouquet of white calla lilies and roses added just the right classic touch to balance the fashion-forward aesthetic.

COCKTAIL HOUR

Cocktail hour took full advantage of the studio’s waterfront views, enjoying the sunny, warm October afternoon. Guests sipped Negronis from silver fountains that shimmered in the sun, adding a playful yet elevated feel to the experience. Sculptural ice installations by Ice Miracles, and vintage inspired glassware completed the moment. Inside, artful grazing tables overflowed with delicious spreads of cheeses, fruits, and bites by AD Catering & Events — all styled alongside funky, vibrant floral arrangements, by Grace Hildreth, that added pops of color to every corner. The laid-back, celebratory vibe set the perfect tone for the evening ahead.

the reception

After cocktail hour, guests hopped on busses and headed to Gottscheer Hall—a retro Queens beer hall full of old-school charm that set the perfect backdrop for an epic reception. Tables were dressed in silky ivory tablecloths from Broadway Party Rentals, with the head table stealing the spotlight thanks to swooping drapery, lush florals, and gold candelabras by Grace Hildreth, paired with handcrafted ceramic vases made by the couple’s close friend, Ori Carlin.

We mixed vintage vibes with modern moments: an old-school photobooth by Majestic Photobooth for candid fun, creative ice sculptures that doubled as art, and family-style Mediterranean food made by family friend Gila Carlin. A show-stopping four-tiered vintage-inspired cake, crafted with love by friend Kendall Smith, added the perfect nostalgic touch to the reception.

As the night went on, the dance floor came alive under a disco ball, with sounds from one of NYC’s best DJs, Ivan Berko, keeping guests dancing all night long.

A BRAZILIAN TOUCH— WEDDING AT THE BORDONE LIC

A Brazilian touch wedding at The Brodone LIC.

Summer Wedding at The Bordone LIC by Taylored Events & Co.

Photos by Alex + Jully Photography

Stephani and Patrick’s Queen’s wedding was nothing short of a night of fun to remember. The couple came to us with their venue, The Bordone LIC, and a vision. The Bordone is a blank canvas space with New York City skyline views, that every city couple dreams of having. The overall vibe was whimsical, chic, soft but with a pop of flair. We played with colors such as creams, greens, peaches, pinks and yellows. Together with us, Brooklyn Wedding Planner, Taylored Events & Co., we created a unique, beautiful and surprise-filled wedding day that represented the couple and who they are.

The Ceremony

When it rains, it doesn’t mean it has to pour. As wedding planners, our job is to always anticipate the worst, while hoping for the best. The ceremony plan was set to be out on the terrace with the city skyline as the backdrop and when we saw rain in the forecast for Stephani + Patrick’s day and knew it was going to be a tough call. June in New York City is typically dry, but you do occasionally get hot and steamy days causing summer showers. We held off from calling it until about 30 minutes before guest arrival, but ultimately, our team advised to do the ceremony inside. The ceremony was still absolutely stunning — the florist, Grace Hildreth, installed hanging greenery overhead creating a canopy over the guests seats, giving the feeling of still being outside (but air conditioned and dry). The florist also created a stunning asymmetrical arch to frame the couple. The ceremony was officiated by a close friend of the couple and kept it short and sweet. Mid ceremony, the clouds started to clear and the sun started to shine in on the newly weds!

COCKTAIL HOUR

Cue the sunshine! With the rain clouds gone, guests were welcomed outside to the terrace for cocktail hour. Traditional Brazilian bites were grilled up and served to guests, as well as other delicious passed apps from STE Events. Guests sipped spicy margaritas and enjoyed New York City views. The bride’s favorite flower was a sunflower, and although she didn’t want all of the arrangements to incorporate them, the florist created a standout sunflower arrangement for the welcome table.

the reception

Designing the layout and vibe for the reception was equally challenging as it was fun. The space has structural pillars diving the open layout, so some creative thinking had to come into play. The couple loved the idea of rectangle tables creating a U shape, with the dance floor in the center of everyone. We placed the couple at a sweetheart table that on either side had long tables with the wedding party. This is one of our favorite ways to give the couple the best of both worlds of having a sweetheart and head table (and easy access to get in and out of their seats).

We had so much fun playing with the place settings and overall tablescapes. Designed with rentals from Broadway Party Rentals, we opted for ivory linens, sage napkins, with light oak chairs, gold rimmed plates, matched with gold cutlery and modern sleek glassware. The florist created an eye-catching mix of small arrangements alternating with bud vases and complimented by blush taper candles. All for repurposing, the asymmetrical arch was moved in front of the DJ booth.

The fun began right away with the couple’s wedding party entrances and parent dances, straight into a small dance set before dinner with club DJ, Carlos Melange. As dinner was wrapping up, the couple surprised guests with a live samba performance from Bossa Nova Entertainment. A node to the bride and her family’s heritage. Guests were plucked out of their seats and encouraged to hit the dance floor.

For dessert, the bride and her family hand made all Brazilian style desserts, and were paired with espresso martinis being served for guests to revive their energy to dance the night away. Stephani + Patrick, knew they wanted the DJ + dancing to feel true to them, and not like a typical wedding, so they created a high energy, dance club atmosphere, and everyone had a blast!
